DEEREK BROWN WINS $1,000.00 AT HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY IN STREET STOCK “CLASH FOR CASH” MAIN EVENT!

Deerek Brown, Street Stock pilot from Stoutland, Mo., left a memorable first impression with racing fans Friday night, capping his first appearance on The Hummer Highbanks with a one thousand dollar victory in the Street Stock “Clash for Cash”.
Brown joined 14 other drivers for an event that was funded by the generosity of several Humboldt Speedway sponsors.
Providers of the massive payday were Whitworth Construction of Chanute, Integrity Sports Cards of Yates Center, Ray’s Metal Depot of LaHarpe, Michael Truck Repair of Iola, MDS Photography of Yates Center, Bea’s Creations of Yates Center, Stuart Head and Machine of Petrolia, and a generous contribution from Irishman Excavation of Humboldt.
Two heat races preceded the main event, and the top eight from these combined events then participated in the Stuart Head and Machine Dash for the Dough, which paid the top three drivers; Dalton Garrison of Collinsville, Ok, Deerek Brown, and Ethan Laymons of Savonburg, Ks. a generous purse as well as the top three starting spots for the feature. This race also shuffled the line up for the first four rows of the Main event.
Garrison, pole sitter for the Main, rocketed away from the field early, with Brown in close pursuit. After several laps, Brown executed a daring pass into the lead, while the rest of the field engaged in intense competition and gave chase. At he checkered flag, Brown emerged victorious, with Garrison as runner up. Meanwhile, a door to door scramble resulted in third place for Chanute, Ks driver Dennis Bishop. Devin Irvin of Cleveland, Mo. took fourth, with Ethan Laymons rounded out the top five.
The Home Savings Bank Factory Stock A feature was highlighted by a stellar performance by winner Brian Knisley of Coffeyville, Ks. After a terrific battle, Humboldt’s Scott Collins claimed the runner up spot, while Jon Westhoff finished a close third. Trey Strpp of Humboldt claimed fourth, with Kenny Schettler of Walnut, Ks took home the fifth position.
Jackie Dalton of Carthage, Mo. recorded the win in Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mod feature racing, fending of a tremendous effort by hard charging Kenton Allen who battled through the pack to claim second. Jon Sheets overcame a hard shot into the barrier wall to tally third, with Brian McGowen clawed his way from the back of the 14 car field to take fourth, and Rick Murcko of Iola completed the Fab Five.
Smooth driving Jacob Ellison of Chanute took home the Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Mods trophy this week, posting a wire to wire feature win. Mike Churning was the runner up in the event, holding off third place Norman Mackley of Ft. Scott. Chanute driver Joey Decoster scored a hard fought fourth spot, with Morans’s Ryan Smith in fifth.
Rounding out the nights festivities was a superbly executed O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compact feature race that saw the 16 car field complete all 16 laps free of yellow flags. Allen Jesseph of Earlton, Ks picked up his second feature win of the season, despite a tremendous effort by Topeka’s Barry Luthi, who claimed the runner up spot. Terry McDonald of Gas, Ks finished a strong third, with Cayden Vance of Chanute fourth. Despite mechanical issues, Brandon Vink was able to overcome and finish fifth.
Humboldt Speedway will take next Friday off, and return on August 7th with a fantastic night of Modified action! Headlining’s the show will be the USMTS Modified Touring Series, with drivers from all over the United States and Canada. Also on the bill will be the exciting Mod Lite’s, smaller Mods powered by motorcycle engines. Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mods and Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Mods will also be on the bill. Admission will be $20.00 for Adults, $18.00 for Seniors, Kids ages 6 to 12 will be $5.00, Reserved seating will be available. Racing action will begin at 8 o’clock.
