Due to the recent blizzard in the Kansas City area, officials from the Valley Speedway have been forced to cancel this Saturday’s USMTS Casey’s Cup Series event due to track conditions.
But never fear, race fans, as the Humboldt Speedway has come to the rescue.
Originally slated to kick off the weekend this Friday, the 3/8-mile clay oval in Humboldt, Kan., will now host a two-day event this Friday and Saturday, March 8-9, with a complete show each day featuring the USMTS Modifieds and the Iron Man Challenge for USRA B-Mods. Pure Stocks will also race each day.
USMTS competitors will be racing for $2,000 to win each night during the 8th Annual Spring Fling @ The Bullring, and the event will kick off the 2013 points battle in the USMTS Arbor Masters Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports.
Friday’s opener will mark the 34th time that the Best of the Best in open-wheel dirt modified racing have visited ‘The Hummer,’ and Jason Hughes comes in with 10 wins in the 33 previous stops, including the Friday night portion of this event one year ago.
Nine-time USMTS national champion Kelly Shryock is a six-time winner at Humboldt while Stormy Scott has three wins – all of them coming in 2012 during his USMTS Rookie of the Year campaign. Two-time winners include Ryan Gustin, Johnny Scott and Johnny Bone Jr., while Tim Donlinger, Jason Krohn, Jon Tesch, Steve Holzkamper, Rodney Sanders, William Gould, Terry Phillips and Jeremy Payne each have one checkered flag to their credit.
On Friday, gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 6:30 and racing starts at 7 p.m. All start times are one hour earlier on Saturday. Support classes both night's will be USRA B Mods and Pure Stocks.
The Humboldt Speedway is a 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.1 mile west of US 169 at the Humboldt exit, then 0.5 mile south, then 0.9 mile east.
