John Allen staged what might best be described as a clinic on how to drive a USRA Modified in Friday night’s feature at Humboldt Speedway. On a track slicked over by the massive rubber of full blown 410 Sprint Cars (more on that in a moment) the veteran Allen was as composed as he could be in winning wire to wire, despite tremendous pressure by rising star Travis Smith, the runner up. Several times, Smith was door to door with the former track champion, yet Allen never wavered, and always prevailed. The hard charger of the event was Jeremy Chambers, who started in the 14th slot and finished third, while Steven Bowers, Jr. and Chase Domer rounded out the top five.
Many touring entities have stopped to race on the ultra smooth Humboldt High Banks in recent years, but none has been more anticipated than the W.A.R. (Wingless Auto Racing) 410 cubic inch Sprint cars. It takes a special breed to compete in a wingless Sprinter, and the drivers provided a thrilling show for the spectators. After 25 laps of feature racing, Chris Parkinson of Gladstone, Mo. was the winner. Second place went to Kearney, Mo. Driver John Helm, (a driver still competing in his 70’s!), while Chad Goff of Spring Hill, Ks. took third, Kevin Risley of Collinsville, Ok. Was fourth, and Nixa, Mo. Driver Devon Huff was fifth.
In the ultra competitive USRA/Golden Knight Billiards stock car division, Jeremy Wilson was on top once again this week, while Tyler James finished second. David Matlock overcame a tire change to finish third, fourth went to Lucas Owen . Cody Vail was fifth.
USRA/Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mod action was marked by the commanding performance of Tim VanGotten, the feature winner, who held off runner up Jimmie Davis. Davis, in turn, defended his spot against third place finisher Dylan Allen. Andy Bryant was fourth, Dakota Foster fifth.
Derrek Wilson continues to be the man to beat in the Whitworth Construction Pure Stock division, adding one more feature trophy to his collection. Don McIntosh was a strong runner up, with current points leader Wayne Johnson third. Fourth went to Bryce Weldon, Joey DeCoster was fifth.
Next week at “The Hummer”: $500.00 to win in USRA B-Mods, a visit from the Midwest Outlaw Lightning Sprints, and a full field of regular classes. Adult admission will be $11.00.
