Pure Stock? Many think of this division as “beginners” or “slow”. Rest assured, after this Friday Night at Humboldt Speedway, the large and enthusiastic crowd on hand will never fell that way again.

It began with Mike Churning (the young guy) and Derrek Wilson (the consummate veteran) lined up side by side on the front row. The green flag goes down, and the contest begins. For15 laps of a 16 lap contest, Churning, fights off Wilson. It’s tooth, fang and claw, door to door racing, the kind you pay your hard earned money to watch. Finally, it’s  the last turn of the last lap, Wilson throws caution to the wind. All in, all out, Wilson takes the checkered flag by maybe a foot. Churning is runner up, Wayne Johnson has the best seat in the house from third place.  Mitch Coulter is fourth, with Don McIntosh fifth.

The Midwest Lightning Sprints, always a fan favorite, made their first appearance of the season, with Mark Billings of Columbia, Mo. topping the feature. The ageless Bobby Layne was second, Barry Lamb was third, Topeka  driver Dusty Murray fourth, and Merrill Lamb fifth.

Once again, history was made as Dakota Foster of Gardner, Ks recorded his very first victory in USRA B-Mods. Foster led wire to wire, Ethan Isaacs of Bonner Springs was second, while Tim Van Gotten, Riley Whitworth, and Jimmie Davis rounded out the top five.

In USRA Stock Car action, Jeremy Wilson added another trophy to his collection, holding off David Matlock. Third was Tyler James, with Steve Herrick fourth and Ronnie Moore fifth.

Class resumed once again in the USRA Modifieds, as Professor John Allen schooled  the field on how to drive a flawless race from start to finish. This weeks star pupil was runner up Jeremy Chambers, Kevin Morrow took third, Chase Sigg fourth, Paden Phillips fifth.

Next week, we honor Mom; mothers with children in tow will enter the stands for half price.
