If your name is Tyler Davis from Haysville, KS life has been a bit sweeter for the last month and a half. With a late race King of America crash, not of his own doing, the only blemish on the season so far for car No. 65, Davis is off to torrid start early in 2022. Welcoming a new baby to the family, notching his first career USMTS win in Texas, and adding two USRA victories all prior to tonight’s Humboldt Speedway season opener, the confidence and positive aura in Davis’ pit area is at an all-time high.

That didn’t change on Friday night as the ARMI Contractors USRA Modifieds made their full time return to weekly racing series action. Davis charged from fourth on the starting grid to claim the runner up position by the end of lap one. Three laps later he slid by young gun Trevor Hughes No. 712 mount and never looked back, opening a 3.5 second advantage on the rest of the field before a late caution erased the lead.

Behind Davis a handful of drivers moved up the leader board throughout the 20-lap race distance. Seventh starting Tad Davis stormed through the front half of the field taking over the runner up spot just past the halfway point. 2021 Lucas Oil Speedway track champion Dillon McCowan did much the same in car No. 8. McCowan started 8th and finished 3rd following Tad Davis the entire way. Andy Bryant looked impressive as well, charging from the tail of the field after an early race spin on lap one, making his was back into the top five.

At the checkers Davis (No. 65), Davis (No. 75), McCowan, Hughes, and Bryant completed the top five. Fourteenth starting Treyton Gann claimed hard charger honors gaining eight spots finishing sixth on the field, while Hughes and rookie driver Dakota Dale picked up heat race wins.

The Ray’s Metal Depot USRA B-Mods feature event played out in much the same fashion as the Modifieds. Pittsburgh, KS veteran Brian McGowan ran away from the field to record his first victory of the season, behind him a torrid battle took place for the runner up spot with three drivers in contention coming to the stripe.

When the checkers waved McGowan, Jake Richards, Tyler Kidwell, double duty driver Andy Bryant, and Krew Walburn made up the top 5. Andy Bryant claimed the hard charger award after starting 13th on the field, while McGowan, Kidwell, and youngster Henry Chambers claimed heat race victories.

Extrusions Inc. USRA Tuners got in on the action, providing an exciting finish of their own. Brandon Vink passed Devin Schmidt late in the race to claim the win. Clint Haigler, Justin Day, and Barry Luthi completed the top 5. Cayden Vance went 16th to 8th for hard charger honors, with Justin Day, Luthi, and Devin Schmidt all picking up heat race wins.

It was a good night to be named Tyler Davis as the Chanute, KS resident picked up the win in Primal Jerky Midwest Mod A-Feature action. Davis paced Scott Collins for the opening four laps before grabbing the lead coming off of turn four to complete lap number 5. Davis led the rest of the way while Collins, Casey Jesseph, Jacob Hall, and Ryan Smith completed the top 5. Hard charger Trevor Holman went 21st to 10th with Jesseph, Collins, and Brady Folk all picking up heat race wins.

Eight cars signed in for Home Savings Bank Factory Stock competition, and Ty Joyce proved to be the class of the field sweeping the nights heat race and A-feature event. Derrek Wilson, Ethan Vance, Trey Stipp, and Tevyn James completed the top 5 with Vance the hard charger after starting 6th on the field.

Weekly racing series action returns to Humboldt Speedway next Friday night. Rays Metal Depot USRA B-Mods, Primal Jerky Midwest Mods, Home Savings Bank Factory Stocks, and Extrusions Inc. USRA Tuners are scheduled to compete with hot laps at 7 and racing at 8 pm. For complete race day and ticket information check us out on Facebook or visit us at http://www.humboldtspeedway.com/.
