Ellison Wins with borrowed transmission!

Ellison Wins with borrowed transmission!

JACOB ELLISON WINS FIREWORKS FRIDAY FEATURE AT HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY; WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM HIS FRIENDS!

By Scott Lee Stewart

Here is a feel good story for a time when it seems the world has forgotten how to feel good:

Chanute, Ks. Midwest Modified driver Jacob Ellison is a young man with a ton of skill and ambition to match. Sometimes, though, mechanical failures get in the way. Ellison broke the transmission in his Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Modified in his heat race. Bad news, indeed. Meanwhile, back in the pit area, B-Mod pilot Kenton Allen, also from Chanute, offered Ellison use of his, Allen’s, spare transmission, knowing full well that it could possibly jeopardize his evenings campaign. Ellison gratefully accepted the loan, and with help from team mates and friends, made the change and took to the track in time for the 16 lap feature. Jacob Ellison then proceeded to win that feature, leading all 16 laps! Ryan Smith recorded a hard fought runner up finish, with Mike Churning hustling his way to third. Fort Scott driver Trever Vann started in the 10th and final row, and drove his way to fourth. Jackson McGowen finished in the top five of the 20 car field.

Good Sportsmanship and dedication to friends is indeed alive and well at Humboldt Speedway!

Later in the program, Kenton Allen would go head to head with Lansing, Ks. speed merchant Jake Richards, with the two exchanging the Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mod feature lead on multiple occasions, with Richards wrestling out the win in the closing laps. Allen was a strong runner up, with Tyler Kidwell in third, Matthew Kay fourth, and Jerry Morgan of Ft. Scott fifth.

ARMI USRA “A” Mods were on hand, and Darron Fuqua of Mayetta, Ks. turned in a thriller of a performance, taking the win over the 16 car field wire to wire. Wichita, Ks. hot shoe Tanner Mullens nailed down second, with Tyler Wolff of Fayetteville, Ar. claiming third, Cody Jolly of Jasper, Mo. fourth, and Terry Schultz of Sedalia, Mo. fifth. For his efforts, Fuqua banked a cool $1000.00 in the event.

Jon Westhoff of Chanute appears to be on his way to a season championship in the Home Savings Bank Factory Stock division with yet another feature win. Ethan Vance of Chanute drove a fast smooth race to take second, edging third place Scott Collins. Kenny Schettler of Walnut, Ks. nailed down the fourth spot, while Lady Racer Kylee Jarman of Coffeyville, Ks. took fifth.

Whitworth Construction Street Stock feature action saw Cleveland, Mo. veteran Devin Irvin drive his way through the 12 car field to record his latest Humboldt Speedway feature win. Runner up went to Chanute driver and long time Humboldt crowd favorite Dennis Bishop, with Scott Stuart third, Lewis Jackson of Wellsville, Ks. fourth, and Chris Vannoster of Coffeyville, Ks. fifth.

Rounding out the evening events, Allen Craig of Chanute, Ks. drove his way from the far end of the snarling 18 car O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compacts field into victory lane for his first Humboldt feature win this year. Garrett Waun of Cherryvale, Ks. overcame adversity to take runner up, while Barry Luthi tagged third. Fourth spot went to Ottawa driver Scott Vink, with Brandon Vink fifth.

Post race, the Humboldt Speedway cast of thousands was treated to a spectacular professional fireworks display, sponsored by the Speedway. July 3rd will be a bye week at The Hummer, with action resuming the following Friday at 8:00 pm.
